Abstract

This study examines the potential transformation of household used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles as an eco-friendly product that supports waste management and environmental sustainability in response to the increasing environmental challenges caused by improper disposal practices, which contribute to water and soil pollution. Conducted in Sri Rejosari Village with 22 women participants, the study employed a participatory experimental approach involving waste collection, filtration and purification, candle production, and product evaluation. Data were collected through observation, participant responses, and assessment of product outcomes. The findings indicate that used cooking oil can be effectively converted into aromatherapy candles with satisfactory physical characteristics and potential economic value, while simultaneously reducing environmental risks associated with waste oil disposal and promoting the adoption of circular economy practices at the community level. Furthermore, participants demonstrated increased awareness of sustainable waste management and recognized opportunities to transform household waste into value-added products. Overall, the study highlights that converting used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles represents a practical strategy for integrating environmental sustainability, waste reduction, community empowerment, and local economic development, thereby contributing to sustainable household waste management initiatives and community-based environmental innovation.
