Abstract

This study aims to examine Muslim consumption behavior during Ramadan from an Islamic economic perspective, using a SWOT analysis based on the principles of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah). This study employed qualitative methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate a discrepancy between the ideals of Ramadan, which teach self-control, and the reality on the ground, where consumption actually increases and tends towards excess. This behavior is evident in excessive spending habits, food waste, and unplanned purchases. The SWOT analysis shows that Ramadan has the strength of increased spiritual awareness, but also has weaknesses such as a lack of understanding of Islamic finance and weak self-control. While there are opportunities to develop better consumption patterns, there are also threats from the influence of advertising, social media, and consumer culture. This study emphasizes the importance of changing consumption patterns to be more modest, wise, and in accordance with Islamic values to achieve balanced well-being.
