Abstract

This program aims to foster environmental awareness among children at TPA Al-Hidayah through tree planting activities and recyclable waste sorting, grounded in the values of the relationship between God, humans, and nature. The educational approach is based on the Islamic concept of humans as khalifah who are entrusted with the responsibility to protect and preserve the environment. The method employed was Participatory Action Research (PAR), implemented through stages of environmental education, hands-on tree planting, waste separation, and the creation of recycled crafts. The integration of religious values with ecological practices served as a moral and spiritual foundation for environmental learning. The results indicate that combining religious-based education with direct ecological action significantly improved children’s understanding of environmental pollution, the importance of conservation, and the role of responsible behavior in daily life. Moreover, participatory activities encouraged creativity, cooperation, and a sense of responsibility among children in caring for plants and managing waste. The program also contributed to positive behavioral changes, such as increased discipline in waste disposal and greater concern for environmental cleanliness both at the learning center and at home. Overall, this approach demonstrates that value-based and experiential environmental education is effective in building sustainable environmental awareness among children in non-formal religious institutions.
