Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Tahfidz Al-Qur’an-based education at MI Manbaul Ulum Mander Tambakboyo and its role in improving students’ religious competence and character development. The growing demand for Islamic educational institutions to integrate Qur’anic memorization programs into formal education systems highlights the need for a more balanced approach to students’ moral and spiritual growth. This study used a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through observations, interviews with school principals, Tahfidz teachers, and students, and documentation of students’ memorization progress. The findings reveal that the Tahfidz program is systematically implemented with structured planning, scheduled memorization sessions, appropriate memorization methods, and regular evaluations. The program positively impacts students’ memorization achievements, discipline, responsibility, and religious character, although challenges such as varying memorization abilities among students and limited instructional time were also identified. In conclusion, Tahfidz Al-Qur’an-based education serves as an effective model for fostering Islamic values and character development at the elementary level, and the study’s findings contribute both theoretically and practically to the development of Qur’anic-based education in Islamic primary schools.
