Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Funglish program as an innovation in English learning for children in Sri Rejosari Village, Way Jepara. The program was conducted as part of a Community Service Program and targeted elementary school children who had limited access to engaging English learning activities. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using an edutainment-based learning design. The learning activities combined educational games, songs, storytelling, Total Physical Response, and Communicative Language Teaching methods. The program was implemented in four meetings from July to August 2025, involving approximately 20 elementary school-aged participants. Data were collected through participatory observation, oral evaluations, and field notes during the learning process. The results showed that the Funglish program increased children’s enthusiasm, active participation, basic vocabulary mastery, and confidence in pronouncing English words. The findings indicate that enjoyable, interactive, and contextual learning activities can effectively support the development of basic English literacy among children in rural areas.
